Another Close game in Boston

April 29th, 2009 by ChaI-Wala

Boston 106 Chicago 104 (3-2)

The Boston Celtics pulled out yet another nail biter against the Chicago Bulls in Game 5 of their first round matchup. In what is easily the most interesting series thus far of the playoffs, the celtics had to ride the shoulders of Rajon Rondo again and rely on Paul Pierce to catch fire at the end of OT to pull out the 2 point win. Rondo continued his “other worldy play” by consistently making big baskets down the stretch with Ray Allen fouled out and Paul Pierce not hitting shots. Rondo finished with another near tripple double 28pts, 11 assts and 8 rebs. Kendrick Perkins also came up huge for the Celtics finishing with 16pts 19 rebs and 7 blks. The Celtics survived yet another barrage of incredible shots from Ben Gordon despite the strained hamstring, and needed a missed free throw from Brad Miller that would have given the Bulls an opportunity to tie the game and send it to Double OT. Check back later for full game reviews.

Lakers 107 Jazz 96 (4-1)

The Los Angeles Lakers became the second team in the 2009 NBA Playoffs to advance to the second round. The met exprectations and finished off the series in 5 games.  The game looked to be a blowout early, but the Lakers gave up yet another huge lead and let the Jazz back into the game but were still able to hold on for the decisive win and the series clincher. Kobe Bryant starred for the lakers with 31 pts while Lamar Odom finished with 26 pts and 15 rebs.  The lakers now await the winner of the Houston – Portland series. Even with the series done in 5 games the Lakers still face a lot of questions regarding their defensive intensity. They consistently give up huge leads and arent able to dominate games defensively for a full 48 minutes and rely mainly on their offensive prowess to win games.

Blowout in New Orleans

April 28th, 2009 by ChaI-Wala

Denver 121 New Orleans 63 (3-1)

In the MOST dominating performance in NBA Playoff history, The Denver Nuggets totally destroyed the New Orleans Hornets. In a show of defensive bravado and perfect Offensive fluidity, the Denver Nuggets showed that when clicking on all Cylinders they are a team to deal with. With Chauncey Billups taking a breather from his dominating ways in the series, Engine two took over in Carmelo Anthony pouring in 26 pts, 7 assts and 6 Rebs. Star point guard Chris Paul was limited to a forgetable game, finishing with 4 pts, 6 assts and 6 Turnovers. The Nuggets will look to finish off the series in Game 5 in Denver.

In what is looking to be a sure 7 – game series, The Atlanta Hawks avenged their home loss by winning one in Miami, in the series game 4. They took this one by force, playing the same kind of tough defence that earned them a win in game 1. Dwayne Wade suffering from back spasms all game long wasnt given a free passs and was haraassed all game . Zaza Pachuila finished with 12 pts and 18 rebs while Mike Bibby added 15 point os his own in the win.

Ty’s Day 9 review

April 27th, 2009 by Ty

Detroit vs Cleavland: Lebron James and his Cavaliers came out with the energy and focus of a team on a mission. But it’s not like they even needed the energy or focus, the winner of this contest was never even in question after game 1 and the series never really picked up from there. The Pistons just rolled over and most fans of good basketball were happy and thankful to see the Pistons accept this without a fight and put us out of the misery of watching another game of this boring series! I will keep saying this ….. i still can’t believe i called the Pistons for an upset!

Chicago vs Boston: Now the double overtime victory by the Bulls was a great game and this is the kind of high energy and high drama game that the playoffs hopes to have and to think my man Chai-Wala was expecting the bulls to let the Celtics blow by them in this series! All i can say is Stars are being born in this series and all the talk of the baby bulls emerging 2 seasons ago, well it did’nt look likely but its seems to be happening right now and they really are looking like they can hold theirs ………… On to game 5 and lets see if the momentum can be sustained through another game.

hedoPhilladelphia vs Orlando: This game was once again decided by late drama with the struggling Turkoglu coming up big to save the Magic from another dissapointing loss, a 3 pointer over the game 3 hero Thaddeus Young. The Orlando Magic can be good but their inability to stop teams and focus on holding leads is not going to take them far. Another lead blown in the 4th quarter and just winning on the last possesion of the game, I can only imagine the hell this team must be going through with Stan van Gundy giving them ear fulls about defensive lapses and carelessness. Look to game 5 for another close game and both teams going at each other big time.

Houston vs Portland: Houston!!!!! is that light we see at the end of the tunnel! YES, it looks like the 2nd round! Another close game with the houston Rockets able to pull off 3 major defensive stops late in the game to prevent the young Blazers from taking this game. It was Defense that won this game with the rockets able to steal the ball from steve Blake on a posession that could have tied the game or given them the lead and on the very next possesion denying brandon Roy from repeating his heroics when they drew a charge on his driving layup to tie the game after Artest missed an open jumper to push the lead up to 4pts with 27 secs left in the game. The rest was decided by free throws and the 2nd round looks like it could happen…….. but dont count Brandon Roy and his Blazers, they have proved they are willing to leave it all on the court and thats whats expcted in game 5. By the way, there was a Tmac sighting at this game………. guys, of course he called Houston to advance!

Looking forward to some entertaining game 5’s!!

The seperation begins!

In a night where the first casualty of the playoffs was a past Champion and where a double overtime thriller was served not including the other two games closely contested and decided by 3 points and less; let’s just say this was a great playoff night and the line is being drawn now between the old and new NBA!!!!!, especially considering that it was heralded by the dawn of the Lebron era and over the old time Eastern conference power house the Detroit Pistons.

Rockets keep home court advantage

April 25th, 2009 by Ty

So with Yao, Artest and Brooks the primary scorers held down; Scola and Battier knocked down as many buckets as they were given to keep the Rockets going and this was the difference in this highly contested game where the Blazers showed they are definately a different team from the one that came through in the opening game of the series! Rockets hold on to win the game and still have the upper-hand in this series.

Sixers pull off another magical win!

April 25th, 2009 by Ty

This series keeps giving us some competitive ball with great finishes! Tonight Thadeus Young came up with the post up layup past the double team of Rashad Lewis and Defensive player of the year Dwight Howard. The question here is where was the defense in the paint? Great game by Dwight but the Magic need to grow up and find a way to close out games as the Sixers are able to get back into all three of the games so far in this series and now take a  2-1 lead into game 4 of the series.

Jason ‘the Jet’ Terry wins 6th man Award

April 25th, 2009 by Ty

This award went to Jason Terry who has proved this season that coming of the bench does have its rewards both on a personal level and most importantly for the team. His effort and scoring efficiency gave his team a lift in the hotly contested western battle for the playoffs. He finished the regular season with 19Pts 3Asts and 2Rbds. There isn’t much else you can ask for from a 6th man!

No ‘Miracle in Salt Lake City’ for Lakers!

April 24th, 2009 by Ty

None of Phil Jackson’s movie inspirations or speeches could save the lakers who could not pull off a win as Kobe missed a 3-pointer to win the game. Instead the Jazz were able to slow down the hot Lakers team who have won the previous two games too easily. Boozer dominated with 23 pts and 22 boards and was helped by Deron Williams jumper that eventually won the game. We have a series going now  Lakers 2- 1 Jazz.
